Why we chose it

This bet exists because the House finally did its part: on July 14 it passed the Sunshine Protection Act 308-117, and Trump has been spamming Truth Social ever since — including a riff that clock-changing is costly because clocks in towers require renting heavy equipment twice a year. So only the Senate stands between here and Yes, which is why the 2026 leg trades at just 11%: no Senate vote is scheduled, it needs 60 votes, and Thune says his caucus is split. Tom Cotton is actively asking Thune not to bring it up, and Western senators balk at 9:30am Montana sunrises.

The comedy gold: it's a mirror of 2022, when the Senate passed it by unanimous consent and several senators later admitted they'd have objected if they knew it could pass — then the House killed it. And the killer precedent: Nixon signed permanent DST in 1973 and Congress repealed it within ten months after dark-morning kid accidents. There's even a rival faction — a competing "Sunshine for Our Kids Act" wants permanent standard time instead, backed by the MAHA crowd. Everyone agrees to lock the clock; nobody agrees where.

Sal
House passed it three-oh-eight to one-seventeen, but Thune won't schedule it and Montana won't eat a nine-thirty sunrise. Nixon tried permanent DST in seventy-three — repealed inside a year. Forty-eight cents is high.
Eddie
Sal, a coin flip priced on whether the Senate remembers kids in the dark from 1973. That's the market — barbecue hour versus the school bus, and somehow we've got a decimal on it.
