This bet exists because the AI-video floodgates just cracked open. In March 2026, Higgsfield launched "Original Series," a free streaming destination for fully AI-generated episodic content, starting with Arena Zero, and Artlist is launching Artlist TV on June 1, a streaming platform exclusively populated by AI-generated shows like the PR-firm satire "Terrible People." That's pushed traders to ask: which legacy streamer will blink first before 2027?
Amazon and Netflix lead because both have signaled. Netflix quietly launched an internal studio called INKubator in March 2026 to produce animated shorts and specials using generative AI, led by an ex-DreamWorks/A24 exec — not a throwaway experiment. Amazon's edge is MGM's looser content pipeline and Bezos's open AI bullishness. Disney sits third despite suing Midjourney — its animation slate is the most plausible AI testbed.
The key fine print: "fully AI-generated" and "multi-episode scripted" — INKubator's shorts probably don't qualify, and most studios are quietly using AI for assist work, not end-to-end shows. The no-case across the board: SAG-AFTRA backlash and the optics nightmare of being first.
