The board on 23 May 2026, the day the script was written. A price is the market’s odds of that outcome.
This is really a market on whose timeline you believe, and the line sits at 45 cents on forty-eight grand traded — near enough a coin flip. Musk says Starship's first Mars run leaves late 2026 carrying Tesla Optimus robots, with humans following 2029 at the earliest — so on SpaceX's own schedule the robot wins by years, and the robot is structurally the easier ask: no return trip, no life support, no food, no water, no Congress.
That's the case that 45 is too low, not too high. The counterweight is that both halves of the plan are Musk timelines, and the reference class for those is unkind — plus humanoids currently fall over and crash on Earth, where someone can pick them up; a dead Optimus face-down in regolith may not count as "walking," depending on how the resolution reads. Meanwhile NASA's funded program is pointed at the Moon, pushing any human bootprint toward the mid-2030s. Deadline 2035; the machine's ride leaves first.
