The board on 28 May 2026, the day the script was written. A price is the market’s odds of that outcome.
Two confirmed interstellar visitors in all of human history — 'Oumuamua in 2017, Borisov in 2019 — and this market prices a third within seven months at 40%, with nearly two hundred grand traded. The reason is hardware, not luck: the Vera Rubin Observatory comes online this year, and once it starts sweeping the whole southern sky every few nights, projections run from dozens to hundreds of interstellar objects over its decade of operation.
Both confirmed visitors arrived since 2017 — the cadence picked up the moment the telescopes improved, and Rubin is the biggest improvement ever pointed at the question. So the bet is really about rate: if these things pass through constantly and we simply couldn't see them, first light turns a once-a-decade event into an annual one and 40% is cheap. If 'Oumuamua-class flybys are genuinely rare, the sky stays empty no matter who's watching. Watch the line after first light — a drift toward fifty means somebody knew the hardware was hot.
