Resolution criteria. This market predicts whether a song whose primary creative authorship (composition and/or performance) is artificial intelligence will chart in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 before January 1, 2027. If, at any time before this date, a song that is publicly identified by Billboard, its label, or its credited artist as being primarily AI-generated (either composed by AI or performed by an AI-generated vocal model) appears in positions 1 through 20 of…

Why we chose it

This bet is Billboard's own house prediction turned into a market: Billboard's business editors spent their 2026-predictions podcast debating whether an AI song cracks the Hot 100 this year, after a late-2025 wave of AI acts storming the niche charts — Breaking Rust's "Walk My Walk" topped Country Digital Song Sales and Xania Monet became the first AI act on a radio airplay chart. This year Suno-made persona IngaRose hit No. 1 on U.S. iTunes with "Celebrate Me".

Here's the catch that makes 49% look rich: every AI "chart-topper" so far conquered sales-only charts; Monet's biggest song never even entered the Hot 100, peaking at No. 22 on Digital Song Sales. Top 20 demands sustained streaming plus radio, and the pattern is spike-then-cliff — "a sharp peak of curiosity... followed by a cliff of disinterest". Yes case: a label-backed act (Monet signed to Hallwood for ~$3M) plus a TikTok monster. No case: novelty sales don't stream, and definitional fights over "AI-created" — Monet's lyrics are human-written.

Sal
Forty-nine's a hair rich. The pattern is spike then cliff on novelty songs — you need a Suno-marketed act to hold streams for weeks. Leave the robots to Eurovision.
Eddie
Sal, the label IS the bet. Somebody has to raise their hand and admit it — and why would they, when the song's already a hit?
